Until the beginning of the 20th century, the territory of Acre belonged to Bolivia. Thanks to diplomatic negotiations made by Baron of Rio Branco, the area was in 1904 attached to the national territory. Attracted by the rubber production, pioneers from the Northeast started the state land occupation, creating the main cities of the region. Rubber also attracts many tourists, who venture on tours to rubber plantations and have contact with the extraction process of latex – the raw material for rubber production. The reserves are very close to the capital of the state: the City of Rio Branco.
