About Distrito Federal
In 1956, the then President Juscelino Kubitschek started the works to build the new Federal Capital. Thousands of workers, hailing from everywhere in the Country, concentrated in the region, building not only the city that would become the center of power in the Country, but also giving shape to the lands that today are known as Distrito Federal. Brasília, capital of Distrito Federal and the Country, was born from the urban planning project done by Lúcio Costa and is a must see destination for tourists. The great attraction of the city is the civic tourism. On a tour around the Três Poderes Square, it is possible to know the places from where major political decisions arise. National Congress, Planalto Palace, Ministries Esplanade, Itamarary Palace and Justiça Palace mingle with the monuments and works of renowned artists and fill the eyes of those who come to the city, on an exciting tour around the heart of power. For its architectural beauty, Brasília was granted heritage status in 1987, as Cultural and Historic Patrimony of Humanity, being the only city created in the 20th century to receive this denomination.
