Rio de Janeiro, "The Wonderful City", offers lodging in a wide variety of price ranges and quality, so finding a good place for your stay there is an easy enough task.

The first thing to do, in case you know your way around a little bit, is to decide which area or neighborhood attracts you the most, and then look for establishments there. In case you are not familiar with the city, you can look for a hotel in the Copacabana area, which is highly toured and very beautiful.

Second, depending on the length of your stay and your budget, you should decide on which type of establishment you'd like to stay in. Breakfast is almost always included anywhere you stay, and places who don't offer it included allows you to pay extra and have it, but since the food is relatively cheap in Brazil, if you don't have Breakfast included in your tariff, you can enjoy a good one in one of the many small coffee shops which are everywhere, and for more or less the same price.

The last thing to do is to try and book a place in advance. That's the surest way to get better rates and to assure you'll have a place to stay. During special dates, like Carnival and New Year's Even, etc., prices in Rio de Janeiro go high and there are little or no rooms left for those who waited too long, so keep that in mind.
