Recife is the capital city of the state of Pernambuco. It is the largest city in the whole northeastern region and the fifth largest in Brazil.
It's name means "Reef" in Portuguese, and it is also known as the Brazilian "Venice", due to it's numerous bridges and waterways.
Recife has many attractions. It is located in a tropical area where the temperature is warm all year, has beautiful beaches on the Atlatic Ocean and alot of historical sites to see.
It's neighbouring city - Olinda, is a an enchanting place, colorful and inviting. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Finding a place to stay in Recife and Olinda should be an easy enough task. The city is filled with Guesthouses, and apart from special dates like the Carnival, where it might be a little more difficult, there's always room for staying there.
Most Guesthouses and Hotels in Recife can be found in the Boa Viagem neighbourhood, which is located very close to the beach.
While visiting Recife and Olinda, be sure to at least check out Santo Antônio's Church, the Jewish synagogue at old city, which is the first one on the Continent and the beautiful Boa Viagem beach.
Many also go to Porto de Galinhas ("Chicken's Harbor"), located 60km to the south.
